94 - Wanted

Summer seems to finally have hit Nova Scotia, and we've had a number of really lovely days. I love this time of year when it's sunny and warm, but not swelteringly hot. The summers here are very muggy, so I'll take this time of year over that any time!

In other news, I'm still doing correspondence courses at school and volunteering while waiting to here back about a few jobs I've applied for. I am wearing some sweet outfits if I do say so myself (haha) but always forget to photograph them! I'm sorry. I would love to share them with you, and I'll make a better attempt from now on, I swear. For right now though, I just wanted to show you my wishlist from a few places! I am really into dresses and cute tops, flirty shapes, and bright and bold colours. I know these posts can be boring on blogs sometimes, but tell me what you think! Would they work on me? How would you wear them? What are you coveting right now?

93 - Boyfriend Jeans

Another long absence, ugh, sorry guys. I've been in such a rut recently. The weather is awful, I have lots of work for my spring classes (which I am trying my best to avoid but I still have deadlines) and I'm unemployed and just overall, pretty mopey. It's been raining here for a month pretty much non-stop, and the gloominess is making me so blllaahhhh. Hopefully it will brighten up and I will find a sense of purpose soon.

Sorry for the depressing post!

Anyway, just thought I would show this casual outfit. There was discussion in the FA world after Fatshion February about fat bloggers only really showcasing more dressy outfits, because there are uncomfortable feelings about fat women in casual clothes. I find this show interesting as it raised many questions about how we present our bodies to the world, and how they are received. Fat women are more readily accepted if they are presented well, but our job at fat activists is to change preconceived notions of fat bodies, and I think one of the ways in doing this is to showcase them in many different ways, including in everyday casual clothes. I blog mostly dressy outfits, but in my defence, it's because I'm usually overdressed. However, this is probably because of the way more body is deemed more acceptable when it is.

I just wore this outfit today to drive to the next town over to do a little shopping and to visit Fred's dad. It was raining and pretty gross and I really wanted to be comfortable, so this outfit came together out of that.

Cardigan and shoes - Walmart; Tops, Jeans - Evans; Belt - Dorothy Perkins

Sorry for the bad picture quality! It's hard to get a decent photograph in such gloomy weather!

The shoes and jeans are new. The jeans I got last week from Evans during the sale. I really love the look and feel of boyfriend jeans - they are a classic shape and add a touch of casual cool to any outfit. I sized up because they have no stretch, which was good because they just fit my giant calves, haha, but are much too large on the waist as a result. Apart from the slightly strange fit because of my weird proportions, I love these jeans. It's a change from the more dressy wide-leg or flare, or the trendy skinnies (both of which I still love, but it's nice to mix it up now and again).

Hopefully, I'll feel better and be able to update more regularly soon. Would you guys prefer to see outfits more often - say 3-4 times a week - including more casual outfits, or 1 to 2 times a week with the more dressy/fashionable outfits?

92 - Inspiration

I am constantly torn when it comes to my style. Right now, I am being pulled in three ways - toward floatly, floral 70s maxi dresses, with floppy hats, and sandals. Then toward a chic mix of 50s and 60s - think structured shift dresses in fun patterns - red, white, black, polka dots, hearts - with pumps or ballet flats, and cat eye glasses. These two themes I've brought up before in recent posts about pining for the summer. However, I am also pulled toward an aesthetic decidedly darker - tight black skinnies, sheer oversized blouses, platforms and super sleek blazers.

The XX's Romy Madley Croft is my main inspiration.

Photographs from Zimbio.

This kind of look reminds me of how my mum dressed in the 80s, just before I was born, which makes me love it even more.

What do you think - do you like this kind of look or prefer a softer palette? How can I incorporate pieces like this into my already existing closet of bright colours and feminine shapes?

91 - Red & Leopard

Another outfit for you! This one I wore last week to our end of term party for us Women's and Gender Studies students! It was a lot of fun! We had a potluck, punch, and a button maker!

I wore this outfit, and it actually features two of my favourite recent purchases. The red cardigan is from City Chic, and I picked it up during their amazing 60% sale last month. It fits like a dream and is made of a lovely heavy knit, so it keeps its shape well. It is also the best shade of red because it is blue based! I can't wear warm colours at all.

The leopard print dress is from Asos Curve and is still available in a 26 in their clearance section. The second it went on sale I grabbed one, I've had my eye on it for ages, but I never pay full price for anything. It runs quite large - lately I've been having problems with their fit, so I usually just default to a 26 now to make sure, but this dress is very roomy. I probably could fit in a 20 comfortably, so if you are larger than a 26 and would like this dress - do it! It'll definitely fit you. It is a lovely fabric, and drapes perfectly. It hits me right at the waist, and has ties, so I can pull it in to cinch my waist a little more. It's also a fantastic length on me as it hits right above the knee, which means I can wear tights and not show the colour change on the thigh. I have such a problem with how short dresses from Asos are. I know at 5'8.5" I am taller than the average woman, but seriously, it's not a lot to ask that dresses at least cover my bum you know? I prefer mine knee length too, because I feel way less self conscious, and could probably wear them without tights when it gets warmer. So yes, this dress is pretty much perfect all around!

Also, here is one of the buttons I made! It's perfect.

We are going out tonight, but I'm stumped on what to wear. Hopefully I can come up with something good, then I can snap some OOTDs. I am so excited to finally have the time again to blog! :)

90 - Five Take... Maxi Dresses... and Florals!

I've been away so long, I'm sorry! (If anyone even really noticed!). The past month has been crazy finishing up my second semester at school. I had crazy papers, then exams. I was also super sick the past two weeks during exam period... it really sucked, but I'm finally feeling better after resting for a week. Unfortunately, I just started two spring courses today, but hopefully they won't be a crazy amount of work!

Anyway, so I'm posting an outfit that incorporates both of the last two Five Take challenges. It's a bit of a cheat but I hope you forgive me :)

Dress - Asos; Cardigan - borrowed from my sister; Shoes - Payless

I spent the Easter weekend visiting my family, so this is what I wore to eat the most delicious roast dinner. It was amazing! Then, of course, I ate lots of chocolate. So I clearly needed something that wasn't restrictive, which is where this dress came in handy.

It was an amazing buy for me. I snagged it in the Asos clearance section late last year, the last one! It had sold out, but someone must have returned this one late in the season. It's quite large at a 26, but I can see that being nice during our muggy summer days. It also has ties at the waist to tighten it, so it's not too boxy. I can see lounging around in this dress a lot!

So yes, school is done (except the two summer classes) so hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently. I have another outfit to post tomorrow as well. I hope I can keep this up, I missed the blog community!

89 - Five Take... Brights

Hey :) Sorry for the long absence - school has been nuts! It's nearly over though, I finish up classes next Wednesday, and then have 5 exams, then I'm free! Well.... I have two spring classes, but they're distance so hopefully it won't be too bad!

Anyway, I've been awful at Five Take for the past few weeks and I feel terrible. Today, I actually had time to wear decent clothes and take pictures, so I did the challenge from last week which was to wear something bright. I wore this simple outfit, but I think the hot pink top really pops against the black and grey. I also have these cool animal print tights from Hips & Curve, which are awesome, they fit really well. You guys must be so sick of seeing this black pencil skirt.. I wear it really often it seems! It is such a staple though..

Cardigan - Walmart, Top - Joe Fresh, Skirt - ?, Tights - Hips & Curves, Shoes - Payless, Belt - Dorothy Perkins (came with a dress)

I hope you're all well. I'm hoping to be able to get some posts up from now on - hopefully things will be a little calmer :)
